Witnesses: Driver ‘slumped’ before crash

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WOOD) — Police found a Battle Creek man dead after his car collided with a concrete barrier Wednesday.

Officers responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash on Roosevelt Avenue near East Avenue around 11:15 a.m., according to the Battle Creek Police Department.

Witnesses at the scene told officers that the driver of the car appeared to be slumped behind the wheel before striking the concrete barrier.

The driver, 83-year-old Leslie Wilkins, Sr., was pronounced dead on the scene.

The crash is still under investigation.
