PENNFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) – A man was arrested following a domestic situation in which police said he shot a gun inside his home with his family present, and then barricaded himself inside the residence.

Calhoun County sheriff’s deputies responded around 8 p.m. Sunday to a report of gunshots being fired in the 100 block of Briar’s Farm Lane in the Carriage Hills neighborhood, near M-66 and Morgan Road, in Pennfield Township.

Dispatchers told deputies, who were en route, that the caller, a juvenile female, said her father had fired gunshots inside their residence, and that she was concerned for her mother’s safety as her parents had been arguing.

Deputies arrived and helped two juveniles escape from the home.

A short time later, the children’s mother exited the residence and told police that her husband and an adult daughter were still inside the house, according to a police news release.

The 40-year-old mother confirmed to police that her husband fired gunshots in the residence.

Police tried numerous times to make contact with the suspect but were unsuccessful.

Authorities set up a perimeter around the residence, and Battle Creek City Police Department’s Emergency Response Team was called to the scene.

Police tried again contacting the suspect, this time using a loud speaker.

A short time later, the 43-year-old suspect exited the residence and was taken into custody on charges of reckless/careless discharge of a weapon.

Nobody was injured.
