KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) – Two men have been charged in connection to the May 2013 murder of a woman in Kalamazoo.
James Corneil Shaver was arraigned on Monday in Kalamazoo District Court on charges of open murder, assault with intent to murder, two counts of felony firearm and two counts of felon in possession of a firearm.
Police said Shaver fatally shot Tawana Henderson, 35, in the early morning hours of May 21, 2013 in the area of Florence Street and Cobb Street in Kalamazoo. She was taken to Bronson Methodist Hospital where she died.
Officers also found Shaver, who was 31 at the time, at the scene of the shooting, police said. He had a number of gunshot wounds, but survived his injuries.
A second man, Antwon Dontae Rolland, 33, was also arrested in connection to the investigation into Henderson’s murder, according to police.
Rolland is awaiting trial after being arraigned on charges of carrying a concealed weapon, felon in possession of a weapon, and felony firearm, a release said.
Shaver is currently behind bars in Coldwater at the Lakeland Correctional Facility, following a parole violation. His next court date is scheduled for April 2.
