Guilty verdict in 1987 double homicide

Ryan Wyngarden (2013)

GRAND HAVEN, Mich. (WOOD) – A jury found a Zeeland Township man, charged with the murder of his sister and her husband more than 26 years ago, guilty Friday afternoon.

After several hours of deliberation Friday, 51-year-old Ryan Wyngarden was found guilty on two counts of 1st degree murder.

In January 2013, Wyngarden was charged in the 1987 double homicide of Gail and Rick Brink. Ryan Wyngarden is Gail Brink’s brother.

It was alleged during a 2013 preliminary hearing that Ryan Wyngarden shot and killed his sister and her husband out of jealousy because Ryan had a sexual relationship with his sister going back years.

Gail Brinks was 22 and her husband was 28 when the couple were found shot to death in their Park Township home on Nov. 23, 1987.

The trial started back on March 6. Wyngarden is scheduled to be sentenced on April 21 at 11:30 a.m.
