GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) – A man who pleaded no contest to the shooting of a woman on Grand Rapids’ southeast side has been sentenced to at least 14 years in prison.
Michael Willis Brown was sentenced Tuesday in Kent County Circuit Court to two years in prison for a felony firearm charge, and 12 to 25 years in prison for assault with intent to murder.
In August 2013, police said Brown got out of a car that had stopped outside a home in the 700 block of Oakdale Street SE, and shot a woman in her 40s in the chest as she stood on her porch.
Brown left the scene, police said, but officers caught up with him a short time later, and he was arrested.
The woman survived her injuries.
