DETROIT (AP) — Detroit police say a mob attacked and critically injured a man who pulled over after striking a 11-year-old boy with his truck.
Sgt. Michael Woody says the accident and attack happened about 4:10 p.m. Wednesday on the city’s east side.
Woody says about 30 people were at the scene but says he doesn’t know how many of them attacked the driver. He says the driver was making no attempt to flee and was checking on the boy’s condition when neighborhood residents attacked him.
The sergeant tells the Detroit Free Press (http://on.freep.com/1h4Ypnk ) that the man received multiple serious head injuries.
Woody says there’s no word on the boy’s condition. WDIV-TV reports he had a broken leg.
