SPENCER TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — One person was airlifted to a hospital after a single-vehicle crash Thursday night.

It happened on 18 Mile Road near Meddler Avenue NE, just west of Lincoln Lake in Spencer Township in Kent County’s northeast corner, around 9 p.m. Thursday.

Authorities said a 2002 jeep Wrangler was traveling westbound on 18 Mile Road when it lost control and crossed the center line before hitting a tree on the south side of the road.

The driver, 21-year-old Gregory Reed of Gowen, suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to Spectrum Hospital in Grand Rapids.

The accident is still under investigation; however, alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor.
