CONVIS TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Authorities in Calhoun County destroyed more than 250 sticks of a dynamite a man found on a deceased relative’s property.
The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department says it was first contacted around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday by a Convis Township man who said he discovered between 15 and 20 sticks of dynamite in an outbuilding after his relative died. He wanted to safely get rid of it.
When authorities showed up, they found there were actually 256 sticks of dynamite.
Bomb squads from the Battle Creek Police Department and Michigan State Police checked it out and decided Thursday to destroy the explosives.
The dynamite was safely removed from the outbuilding and destroyed at the scene.
The Marshall Township Fire Department assisted.
