Schauer announces running mate

LANSING, Mich. (WOOD) –Michigan gubernatorial candidate Mark Schauer, a former congressman from Battle Creek has announced Oakland County Clerk Lisa Brown as his running mate in this year’s election.

Brown most recently was one of four county clerks who issued marriage licenses to same-sex couples a day after a federal judge overturned the state’s ban and before a federal appeals panel suspended the marriages.

Brown has been the Oakland County Clerk since 2013. Before that, she served four years in the Michigan House.

Schauer is scheduled to make a campaign stop Thursday at Yesterdog in Grand Rapids.

The former congressman is challenging incumbent Republican Gov. Rick Snyder.
