Bicyclist swiped by pickup truck, injured

ALGOMA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A 53-year-old Newaygo man is recovering at a Grand Rapids hospital after a pickup truck swiped the man on his bicycle Saturday afternoon.

Around 2:30 p.m., rescue crews were dispatched to Northland Dr NE north of 12 Mile Road on a report of a bicyclist being struck by a vehicle.

Authorities say 53-year-old Dale Ace Slagle was riding his bicycle, going south on Northland Dr. when a passing Ford F150 pickup truck swiped the bicycle’s handlebar and Slagle’s elbow. Slagle was pushed to the ground and injured.

The driver of the truck, 36-year-old Ajay Grover of Caledonia, stopped and went over to help Slagle.

Slagle was taken to a Grand Rapids hospital to be treated for his non-life threatening injuries.
