CUTLERVILLE, Mich. (WOOD) — One person was killed in a crash Sunday morning after driving the wrong way on US-131, police say.

The crash happened around 5:30 a.m. in the northbound lanes of US-131 near M-6 in Byron Township, south of Grand Rapids, according to Michigan State Police.

MSP says a 34-year-old Wyoming woman was driving her Chevrolet Cobalt south in the northbound lanes.  The Cobalt collided with a Buick Park Avenue sedan that was headed in the correct direction.

The driver of the Cobalt was pronounced dead on the scene.

The driver of the Buick, a 41-year-old Grand Rapids man, was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries. His two female passengers were also taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

It’s not yet clear why the driver who died was going the wrong way on the highway. The crash remains under investigation. Any witnesses are asked to contact Trooper Brogger at MSP’s Rockford Post at 616.866.4411.

MSP was assisted at the scene by the Kent County Sheriff’s Department and the Cutlerville Fire Department.
