BCPD: ‘Abduction attempt’ a misunderstanding

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WOOD) — Police say what they initially thought may be an abduction attempt actually turned out to be a misunderstanding.

A 13-year-old girl and her friend told the Battle Creek Police Department said they were walking Sunday with the 13-year-old’s dog in the 300 block of Watkins Lane when they were approached by two men in a Jeep. The men got out of the vehicle and said the girl’s dog belonged to them, according to BCPD. When she said it didn’t, one of the men grabbed her arm.

The girls ran away and asked an area resident to call the police. The men left in the Jeep.

BCPD released information about the men and their vehicle Sunday evening, after which they were able to make contact with the men and determine the incident was simply a misunderstanding.

Police said Monday the men were actually looking for a lost dog similar to the 13-year-old’s.

“The Battle Creek Police Department would like to thank those who contributed to locating and resolving this incident,” a Monday release said.
