GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — An April Fools’ prank captured on video at Aquinas College in Grand Rapids has gone viral — and it’s making national headlines.

The prank occurred on April 1 during Professor Stephen Barrows’ macroeconomics class, according to video uploaded to YouTube.

A note in the video says that if a student’s phone rings during class, not only do they have to answer it, they must take the call on speakerphone.

But when one female student’s phone rings, Barrows finds out that the joke isn’t on the student — it’s on him.

The video, which was uploaded on April 5 to YouTube, had already been viewed more than 3.3 million times as of 11 a.m. Monday.

In a Monday interview with 24 Hour News 8, Barrows said he is scrapping the policy that students must answer their phones on speaker if they ring during class.
