Man suspected of stabbing younger brother

CRYSTAL TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) – A Montcalm County man who is suspected of stabbing his younger brother is expected to be arraigned Monday.

The stabbing was reported just before 1 a.m. Saturday in the 8000 block of E. Sidney Road in Crystal Township, east of Stanton.

Montcalm County sheriff’s deputies found the victim, a 24-year-old man who has not yet been named, with injuries from a stab wound to his abdomen, according to the Montcalm County Sheriff’s Department.

The victim was first taken to a hospital in Carson City and then later transferred to a hospital in Grand Rapids where he had to have surgery. Sheriff’s officials said he was in stable condition.

The suspect in the stabbing, a 26-year-old man from Crystal Township, left the scene and a Montcalm County Sheriff’s Office K9 team was unable to track him, sheriff’s officials said. However, he was found Saturday evening and arrested.

Sheriff’s officials said the motive behind the stabbing was unclear; however, alcohol may have been a factor.
