Crews hand shovel snow at Fifth Third Ballpark

COMSTOCK PARK, Mich. (WOOD) — After one of the coldest and snowiest winters on record, the field at Fifth Third Ballpark took a beating.

Less than a month ago, there was a foot of snow still on the ground.

Michael Huie, a groundskeeper at Fifth Third Ballpark, said crews had to hand shovel when there was 16 inches of snow on the field because driving on it would only push the frost layer down and ruin the field.

They would then load the snow into carts and remove it.

Watch the video above as Huie explains all the work that went into preparing the field for Opening Day.
