Otsego woman awarded for volunteering

OTSEGO, Mich. (WOOD) An Otsego woman has been honored with the Salute to Senior Service award. Sixty-five year old Del Beier is recognized for her work with the Hands 2 Hands project, which helps provide local children with meals during the weekend, when they don’t have access to school lunch.

Beier goes to food banks to collect the supplies and coordinates volunteers, who pack and distribute the food each week. The program has grown from 143 children last year, to 170 this year.

Beier also volunteers each week at the pediatric unit at Bronson Hospital, where she plays with and reads to children.

As a Salute to Senior Service award winner, Beier gets $500 for her charity of choice, donated by Home Instead, Inc. She will also be featured on the Salute to Senior Service wall of fame
