Highlights: Whitecaps win home opener

PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — The West Michigan Whitecaps won their home opener against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Tuesday night.

The Whitecaps scored once in the first inning and twice in the fifth, then held on to their lead to beat the Timber Rattlers 3-2.

Ben Verlander, the brother of the Detroit Tigers’ pitcher Justin Verlander, drove in the Whitecaps’ run in the first with an RBI single and another in the fifth with a sacrifice fly.
