Man, 93, killed in BC brush fire

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WOOD) — A 93-year-old man was killed in a brush fire in Battle Creek Wednesday.

Battle Creek emergency responders were sent to the area of Sonoma Road and S. Minges Road around 3:40 p.m., according to a release.

Upon arriving, they found that a 93-year-old man had died after catching fire.

The man had set some brush to burn, according to the Battle Creek Police Department, and got too close to the fire on a garden tracter. He and the tractor both caught fire.

He was discovered when neighbors noticed smoke and went to the man’s house, police said. They doused the fire, but the man had already died.

The man’s identity has not yet been released.
