ALLEGAN, Mich. (WOOD) — One man has been charged in connection to an Allegan County crash that seriously injured a state worker.

Adam Lee Tencate, 32, of the Pullman area was arraigned on a charge of reckless driving causing serious injury, according to the Allegan County Sheriff’s Department.

Just before noon March 31, Tencate’s pickup truck collided the front driver’s side of a passenger car at the intersection of 43rd Street and 118th Avenue in Valley Township northwest of Allegan.

Benjamin Woodward, a Children’s Protective Services worker, had to be extricated from the state-owned car he was driving. He was initially hospitalized in critical condition and remained in the hospital April 10.

Authorities said Tencate was speeding and failed to yield the right of way, and that his vehicle had defects that prevented it from stopping.
