GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Officers killed a dog Thursday while executing a search warrant, the Grand Rapids Police Department says.

It  happened around 5 p.m. at a residence in the 900 block of Fourth Street NW. The GRPD tactical team was executing a search warrant connected to a Kentwood drug investigation.

The dog acted aggressively toward the officers, Lt. Scott Rifenberg told 24 Hour News 8. They opened fire on the animal, shooting and killing it.

Rifenberg said he thought the dog was a pit bull.

No officers were hurt.
