Honoring Betty Ford’s legacy

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) April 8 was the 96th anniversary of First Lady Betty Ford’s birthday. First Lady Rosalyn Carter spoke in honor of the event recently. She spoke with good humor and grace as she recounted their special friendship, and she emphasized the legacy both shared — one marked with feminism and fierce defense of topics no one else was willing to touch at the time.

The discussion was moderated by Betty’s son, Steve Ford, and our cameras captured his memories of his mom and the messages she would want to go on.
