Help the community this Easter

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) One of the biggest family celebrations of the year is happening this weekend: Easter! To make sure no one is forgotten, Mel Trotter Ministries has something special going on. It’s called the Hope Totes campaign. Purple bags were distributed to people, families, churches, youth groups, and schools, so they could be filled with personal items and toiletries for people in need in the community. Hope Totes continues through April 20. Some of the items needed include:

  • Shampoo & conditioner, including ethnic hair products
  • Deodorant
  • Soap
  • Body wash
  • Bath sponges/washcloths
  • Toothpaste
  • Razors & shaving cream
  • Lotion
  • Tissues

Once the totes are filled, they can be dropped off at Mel Trotter’s downtown Grand Rapids mission, or at any of its four thrift stores. If you are interested in participating in Hope Totes, contact Mel Trotter at melissablanchard@meltrotter.org.

Another program that’s helping Mel Trotter is the Golf Marathon of Hope on Monday, June 9, at Railside Golf Club in Byron Center. The 18-hole event raises money for the women and children’s program at Mel Trotter. You can get either an 8:30 a.m. or 2 p.m. tee time. The event features Jim Bultema, PGA professional and general manager of Railside, who will golf 36 hours over two days. Mel Trotter is accepting pledges on behalf of Bultema and his golf marathon.
