BARRY TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A Delton Kellogg Elementary School student brought an airsoft gun to school Tuesday, police say.
The Barry Township Police Department said it received a call from Delton Kellogg Elementary just before 1 p.m. about a student with a gun. An officer was on the scene within a minute of the call, police say. The student had already been detained by school faculty.
An airsoft pistol was found in the student’s backpack and confiscated.
Police say another student had been told about and seen the airsoft gun and told an adult.
Authorities say the airsoft pistol was never displayed in a threatening manner and that students were never in danger. The school was not put on lockdown.
“The student in question attends the elementary school and was turned over to the parents and has been suspended pending a school board review,” a Tuesday release from the police department reads in part.
Police continue to investigate.
