CUTLERVILLE, Mich. (WOOD) — A Kent County woman is living in fear that a disaster will destroy the home she just bought because she can’t prove to her insurance company she owns the home.
Winnie Hall bought a used mobile home from the company that owns the Green Meadow Mobile Home Park. It’s on South Division near Cutlerville. Check receipts show she paid for the home in February. But two months later, she still has not received a title to the home.
“I’m just getting a run around. I really don’t, I’m getting pissed about it it’s just plain and simple,” home owner Winnie Hall said.
No title means no insurance. Hall worries about fire or any other disaster that could ruin her $9,000 investment.
Winnie hasn’t moved in to the mobile home yet. She’s been fixing up the place. She’s frustrated and wondering what she should do next.
“I keep calling them..and they just give me the runaround. They’re telling me that the guy’s out on the road all the time. They can’t get ahold of him; they can’t get anybody to sign off,” Winnie said
“That’s why I called you guys.”
Target 8 started at the park office and found a guy named Gary who was just sitting in for the manager. But even he knew they haven’t sent Winnie her title and told Target 8 to call the corporate people.
The corporate office is in Troy outside Detroit. There are several different company names; all based there at the office of Birch Realty.
We talked to someone with the corpororate on the phone and heard what Winnie has been hearing. The man who needs to sign off won’t be back til early next week. They say Winnie will get her title when he does.
The Michigan Secretary of State’s office handles mobile home registration. It says a seller should hand over the title when the buyer takes over. Dealers get a little more leeway to do paper work, but still, they should be quick about it.
Target 8 will stay in touch with Winnie and see if the seller come through with the title as promised some time next week.
