KALAMAZOO TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Authorities have identified the victim who was found dead inside a Kalamazoo Township mobile home Thursday.
According to witnesses and other materials found at the mobile home in the 1600 block of Olmstead Road, police believe the victim is 29-year-old Jason Lee VanOstran from Kalamazoo.
VanOstran’s mother confirmed to 24 Hour News 8 he is the person found dead in the mobile home. She says Jason was shot in the head.
An autopsy is being performed at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing Friday, but no results are available at this time.
Police were called out to the Sherwood Forest Mobile Home Park shortly before 3:30 p.m. Thursday. They had received a call from a person saying they heard from a third party that there may be a shooting victim in the mobile home.
“We did find somebody here in this trailer who was obviously deceased with wounds that would be consistent with that; that’s about all we know,” said KTPD Chief Tim Bourgeois.
Police want to interview Timothy Joe Salo, 28, from Kalamazoo, in connection with the death investigation.
Salo is the resident of the mobile home and police believe he was there at the time of the incident.
He is described as a white male about 5’11” and 185 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. He also has a number of tattoos, including a tear drop under his left eye, symbols on the left side of his neck, and his last name on his back.
Jason VanOstran’s mother tells 24 Hour News 8 Jason was Salo’s brother-in-law. Salo was married to Jason’s sister, but they are now separated.
