KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — A man has been sentenced in the 2012 death of his infant son.

On Friday, Tahj Lockett was sentenced to 5 to 15 years in prison. Lockett pleaded guilty in Kalamazoo County Circuit Court in March to manslaughter.

Lockett was charged in November 2012 in connection to the death of his 4-month-old son the same week the boy, also named Tahj Lockett, died at a Kalamazoo Township apartment complex.

At the time, authorities said evidence showed Lockett had been intentionally abusing his son. Family court documents said the baby had “numerous” injuries in different stages of healing that caused his death.

Under the terms of Lockett’s plea agreement, a count of second-degree child abuse will be dropped.
