TALLMADGE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A woman, a teenager and a 2-year-old child were taken to area hospitals after a crash on Lake Michigan Drive and 8th Ave Saturday afternoon.
Emergency crews were called to the scene around 3:40 p.m.
Authorities determined 20-year-old Holland resident Dezarae Evelyn Begay was driving a red Ford SUV going eastbound on Lake Michigan Drive went through a red light. A red Kia truck going northbound on 8th Ave was struck by the SUV.
A 2-year-old child was in the SUV during the crash. The child and the female driver were taken to Grand Rapids hospitals.
The driver of the red Kia truck, 17-year-old Hunter Christian Powers from Rockford, was unresponsive for a while, but came to when emergency crews were with the driver. The teenager suffered head injuries and was taken to a Grand Rapids hospital.
A few other vehicles caught debris from the crash. Those drivers were not injured.
Begay and Powers were listed in serious condition; Begay’s 2-year-old passenger is in fair condition. The child was properly strapped in a car seat and Begay and Powers were each wearing seat belts.
