MATTAWAN, Mich. (WOOD) — Van Buren County authorities are trying to track down the three people who stole thousands of dollars from a gas station Sunday morning.

It happened just before noon at a Citgo in the 24000 block of Red Arrow Highway, according to the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities say two suspects walked around the store while a third suspect went into a side room and stole $4,479 from an unlocked drawer.

One of the workers noticed the suspect by the room, at which point he became “irate,” the sheriff’s department said.

The three suspects then took off in newer-model, whit sedan that may have been a Cadillac. A Ford Ranger-style pickup truck — possibly green in color — may also have been involved in the crime.

The description of the suspects was vague. They were described only as three black men ranging in age from 35 to 50. All three were wearing dark clothing. One suspect wore a blue stocking hat and another one was wearing a light-color, golf-style hat.

The sheriff’s department said there were similar incidents with similar descriptions at two Portage stores on Saturday.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 269.657.2006. Tips can also be submitted anonymously at the sheriff’s office website.
