Police: Students sent porn via Snapchat

SCHOOLCRAFT, Mich. (WOOD) — Schoolcraft police are investigating reports that middle and high school students were sent pornographic images via Snapchat.

Nine Schoolcraft Public Schools students told police they received lewd videos and photos of a man they had never met.

Snapchat is an app that lets people send and receive photos and videos. Those ‘snaps’ can only be seen for seconds before they are deleted. Snapchat users are identified by a username they create.

Police say they don’t have any suspects. The face the of the person in the images is always hidden.

“The most important thing is parents should really stress with their kids if they’re contacted via any social media sites from a person they don’t recognize the username, they should not open it, period,” Schoolcraft Police Chief Bryan Campbell said.

Police are reaching out to Snapchat to get the user’s information.

Sending pornographic images to children is a felony.

Schoolcraft police say this is the first time they have dealt with a crime involving Snapchat.
