GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A Wednesday event unveiled the official poster for ArtPrize 2014, as well as a new set of grants for artists participating in the world’s largest art competition.
The announcements were made at this year’s Premiere Event held at the Sheldon Boulevard SE ArtPrize HUB and came five years to the date after ArtPrize was first announced to the public.
The Frey Foundation made a $150,000 commitment over the next three years to provide $2,000 Seed Grants to help artists with costs associated with the competition, organizers said. Applications must be submitted by May 18, and an advisory council of local and national art experts will decide who will be awarded the grants.
Before that announcement was made, Director of Communications Todd Herring showed off the poster designed by Josh Cochran of Oklahoma City, Ok., according to ArtPrize’s Twitter account.
A commemorative book celebrating five years of ArtPrize was also made available Wednesday. It features photos from local photographer Brian Kelly and essays from ArtPrize co-founder Rick DeVos and Michigan Public Radio’s Dustin Dwyer.
ArtPrize 2014 runs Sept. 24 to Oct. 12. Jurors for ArtPrize 2014 will be announced May 21, according to ArtPrize.Tweets by @ArtPrize
