Kalamazoo authorities have been searching Asylum Lake since the beginning of April for missing 56-year-old man Takashi Sugimori.

Officials found his car in the parking area of Asylum Lake off of Parkview Drive. There were also foot tracks leading to the lake and onto the ice which is why police believe Sugimori may have fallen into the lake. Police do not suspect foul play.

Kalamazoo Public Safety Chief Hadley tells 24 Hour News 8 they “received a call of a possible person in the lake. A detective made the scene and confirmed it was a body.”

Authorities believe the body is that of Mr. Sugimori, but will have complete confirmation Saturday after an autopsy is performed on the body.
