Captain Phillips to speak at Davenport University

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) His selfless act at sea likely saved the lives of his crew and inspired a movie that was nominated for an Academy Award. Richard Phillips, now known worldwide as “Captain Phillips,” is coming to Grand Rapids. He will be the featured guest speaker at the annual Excellence in Business Awards Gala at Davenport University, on Friday, May 2.

The gala is the largest fundraising event of the year for student scholarships at Davenport. Blake W. Krueger, Chairman, CEO, and President of Wolverine World Wide, Inc., will be honored with the 2014 Peter C. Cook Excellence in Business Award.

The gala is at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 2, at DeVos Place in downtown Grand Rapids. Table reservations and individual tickets can be purchased by calling (616) 233-3412 or by going online.
