Man convicted of Oct. 2013 stabbing death

PAW PAW, Mich. (WOOD) — A Van Buren County man has been convicted of a lesser charge after stabbing and killing a man last October.

A Van Buren County jury Monday found William Stephens guilty of manslaughter.

In the late hours of Oct. 1, 2013, the 38-year-old Stephens stabbed Trey Yarbrough at the Lakeside Inn in Paw Paw following a fight.

Yarbrough, 20, of Kalamazoo died the next morning.

Stephens was arrested in Battle Creek after an 8-hour manhunt. He was initially charged with homicide.

Stephens is scheduled to be sentenced June 23 in Van Buren County Circuit Court.
