WATCH: Davenport grad fails on-stage flip

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A Davenport graduate who tried to show off how excited he was about receiving his diploma fell a little short on Sunday — and it was all caught on camera.

Davenport University held their annual graduation at Van Andel Arena Sunday afternoon, and hundreds of students received their diplomas in front of a large crowd of family and friends.

One student, Robert Jeffrey Blank, went a little too far in expressing how excited he was to receive his diploma.

After shaking hands with Davenport University President Richard Pappas and several members of the Davenport University’s board of trustees, Blank tried to do a back flip on stage. Unfortunately, it didn’t end the way he planned, and he landed face down, mid-flip.

Thankfully, Blank picked himself and left the stage after the embarrassing attempt. Officials with the school said Blank wasn’t hurt, and wasn’t in any trouble for the stunt.

Below: Blank speaks with Brian Sterling live on 24 Hour News 8.
