Celebrating freshness at the outdoor market


GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) Fresh, locally grown food is celebrated at farmers markets all over West Michigan. A special market is about to open when the outdoor market at the Grand Rapids Downtown Market officially opens on Saturday, May 3.

This is the first spring when both the indoor and outdoor markets are open. Visser Farms is one of the places you’ll see represented at the outdoor market. They have fresh produce and flowers for sale.

There are a lot of events planned for opening day of the outdoor market. Here is a schedule:

9 – 10:15 a.m. – Free yoga class

10 – 11 a.m. – Free cooking demo

11 a.m. – 2 p.m. – Music in the Market Hall

Noon – 1 p.m. – Microgreens bar in the greenhouse

The Grand Rapids Downtown Market is located at 435 Ionia Ave. SW. The outdoor market is open Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. during the month of May. For more summer hours, click here.
