Cell phone scam involving text messages

KENT COUNTY, Mich. (WOOD)– Officials in Kent County are investigating a scam involving cell phones after getting multiple reports.

Authorities with the Kent County Sheriff’s Department say they’ve received complaints that people are getting text messages, which give you a phone number to call and say it’s a local bank. When the victim calls the number, there’s an automated message saying there’s a security issue at the bank, and they need your social security number and credit card number. If you get one of these texts, authorities urge you not to respond or give out any of that information over the phone.
