Howard City man arrested for hit and run

HOWARD CITY, Mich. (WOOD) – Montcalm County police responded to a hit and run accident involving injuries at Walnut Street near Cedar Street around 7p.m. on Tuesday.

After investigating, police determined that a 2007 Ford Ranger was traveling eastbound on Walnut Street preparing to turn into a private drive when it was hit from behind by a 1999 Ford Explorer, which fled the scene.

Witnesses and occupants of the Ranger were able to provide police with a description of the driver and the vehicle’s registration plate.

Montcalm County Emergency Medical Services treated a 20-year-old Jenison woman who sustained non-life threatening injuries to her head and neck.

The three other occupants in the car, including a one-year-old, were not harmed.

A witness followed the hit and run suspect to a nearby residence where police arrested a 27-year-old Howard City man who is lodged at Montcalm County Jail for Leaving the Scene of a Personal Injury Accident and Driving while License Suspended.

Alcohol use was not involved in the crash and all occupants of the vehicles involved were wearing their seatbelts.

The accident remains under investigation.
