MASON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — One person was killed in a Cass County crash involving a semi-truck Thursday morning.

It happened around 8:30 a.m. on Old M-205 near Five Points Road in Mason Township, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Department. That’s southeast of Edwardsburg, near the Indiana border.

Jon Stone, 54, and his passenger Donald Bardo, 48, were headed south on Five Points Road. At the intersection with US-12, the sheriff’s office said, Stone failed to yield to a semi-truck headed west on Old M-205.

The semi-truck collided with Stone’s pickup. Stone was pronounced dead at the scene.

Bardo and the semi driver, 50-year-old Robert Arnold of Sparta, were taken to Elkhart General Hospital in Indiana.

The sheriff’s office said Stone was not wearing a seat belt.

Alcohol was not a factor.

Porter Fire and Ambulance Service, Edwardsburg Ambulance Service, Ontwa Township-Edwardsburg Police Department and Michigan State Police also responded to the scene.
