GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A driver and passenger had a couple scratches/bruises after a crash on a US 131 exit in Grand Rapids Friday evening.
Around 5:45 p.m., emergency crews were called out to the southbound US 131 exit to Pearl Street. A truck overturned, hit the guard rail and debris went over the side into the road below.
Authorities believe a pickup truck was coming from westbound I-196 to southbound US 131. The truck cut all the way across the highway, hit another vehicle, lost control and over turned several times coming to rest under southbound ramp to Pearl Street.
“Shows you the importance of wearing a safety belt at all times. In a crash like that, it’s probably the only reason they walked away from it,” Michigan State Police trooper Eric Brogger said.
The exit was closed for an hour as crews worked to clean up the crash.
