BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WOOD) — A 14-month-old child was struck by a vehicle at Bailey Park in Battle Creek Saturday.

The driver was pulling forward from a grassy area near the playground when the child walked in front of the truck, according to a news release. The driver, unable to see the boy, struck the child and he fell to the ground.

Police said a family member of the child witnessed the incident and was able to pull the child away before the truck completely ran him over.

The child was transported to a local hospital with what police called “superficial wounds.”

The incident remains under investigation.
