GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The family and friends of a missing Grand Rapids mom told 24 Hour News 8 they’re praying for a miracle; that their loved one will come home safely after being gone for 10 days.

40-year-old Berta Yolanda Reyes disappeared April 24th. She was last seen near her work, Neal Mast & Son Greenhouse, near the intersection of Bristol Ave NW and 4 Mile Rd NW in Walker.

Police told 24 Hour News 8 that Reyes’ husband dropped her off that morning. It’s not clear if he saw her walk in the building, but she did not punch in, and none of the other employees saw her at work. Her 18-year-old son went to pick her up at work that evening and she wasn’t there. Her family reported her missing. Police said that Reyes’ husband is cooperating with their investigation.

“It seems just like a nightmare,” said Xeomara Montenegro, Reyes’ friend. “[Reyes’ family] wakes up and think that this isn’t happening.”

Montenegro said that her family had a difficult time printing up pictures to put on the missing posters because the disappearance doesn’t quite seem real.

Reyes’ friends and family said after living in Grand Rapids for about 15 years, there’s no way she would have voluntarily disappeared, especially since she left a six-year-old daughter and 18 and 14-year-old sons behind.

“She’s the glue of the family,” said Montenegro. “She’s always very caring for all of them.”

Friends told 24 Hour News 8 Saturday that they don’t want to think about what may have happened, choosing instead to focus on praying for Reyes’ safe return.

“Prayer is very important, that will be the only thing that will give us hope in this situation when we don’t have an answer,” said Montenegro. “That will be the only thing we can get attached to.”

That was the point of Saturday’s vigil Montenegro said, making sure people know Reyes is missing, and her family is hurting, so hopefully someone will call with the tip that could solve the case.

Reyes is 5-foot-3 and about 120 pounds with brown hair and eyes. She was last seen wearing tennis shoes, blue jeans and a sweater.
