PORTAGE, Mich. (WOOD) — Police say a woman started a fire at a Portage house to which officers had been called to investigate a disturbance.

It happened around 4:10 p.m. Sunday, according to the Portage Department of Public Safety. Officers who were called to a residence in the 5800 block of Old Mission Street to a “male/female disturbance” smelled smoke.

Everyone was evacuated from the house. Firefighters from Portage, as well as Oshtemo, Comstock and Texas townships, put the fire out by about 4:35 p.m.

No one was hurt.

Police say they arrested a 54-year-old Portage woman believed to have started the fire. The prosecutor’s office is reviewing the case to determine whether arson charges are appropriate.
