GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP/WOOD) — An inmate at the Kent County Correctional Facility has died by hanging himself.

Ryan Maddox was discovered not breathing and without a pulse around 7:50 p.m. Monday, according to a release the Kent County Sheriff’s Department. Efforts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful.

Maddox, 28, had been in the county jail in Grand Rapids since November on a charge of assault by strangulation or suffocation.

A Tuesday autopsy ruled the death suicide by asphyxiation.

It’s the third death at the jail since March. The others were related to medical problems.
