I-96 repairs underway in Kent County

The 10.5 miles of construction on 1-96 starting May 9. (May 09, 2014)

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.(WOOD) – Construction has started on a portion of I-96 in eastern Kent County.

Repairs will be made on 10.5 miles of concrete pavement from Thornapple River Drive to the Kent/Ionia county line.

During the construction, two lanes will be open in both directions weekdays. Single-lane closures will happened on the weekends starting 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday, and some weeknights from 9 p.m. till 5 a.m., according to a release.

The eastbound I-96 to westbound M-6 ramp will be closed for one weekend.

The project will be complete around Aug. 18, MDOT said.
