Man thrown from moped, critically hurt

ORANGEVILLE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A 65-year-old man was airlifted to the hospital after he was thrown off a moped Saturday.

James Bourdo of Shelbyville was riding the moped on Wildwood Road, near the intersection of Fawn Lake Road in Orangeville Township, when the crash occurred around 5:40 p.m. Saturday.

Authorities said Bourdo was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and suffered severe injuries.

West Michigan Air Care transported Bourdo to Borgess Hospital, where he underwent surgery and was Saturday listed in critical condition.

Neither alcohol or drugs appear to be factors in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation by the Michigan State Police.
