SHERIDAN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD)– A 16-year-old boy is dead after being involved in a rollover crash Sunday morning.

According to officials, the crash happened just after 1:30 a.m. on Maple Island Avenue in Sheridan Township near Fremont. Another driver noticed the crash and notified police.

Authorities said Dakota Dean Murphy of Holton lost control of the car, crossed the center lane, and rolled over. Officials tell 24 Hour News 8 that Murphy was a junior at Fremont High School and was involved in a production at the Dogwood Center for Performing Arts.

Murphy worked late the previous night and officials believe he was en route home when the crash happened.

Emergency officials closed down a portion of Maple Island Avenue but the road is back open.

The Muskegon County Sheriff’s Department, Newaygo County Sheriff’s Department, and Holton Township Fire Department all responded to the scene.
