Sheriff’s Office: Man stops would-be robber

Brady Charles Veltman

GEORGETOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A homeowner was able to detain one of three people trying to steal from his garage, authorities say.

It happened around 3:30 a.m. Monday in the 6800 block of Marigold Street in Georgetown Township, according to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Mark Bennett.

A husband and wife told authorities they heard noise coming from their garage. When the husband went to investigate, he found three people trying to steal, according to the sheriff’s office.

Two of the would-be robbers took off. The husband and one of the suspects engaged in an altercation, the sheriff’s office said. The suspect was not armed, but the homeowner sustained some minor injuries.

The wife then called 911, saying her husband had stopped one of the suspects.

Sheriff’s deputies soon arrived and arrested 19-year-old Brady Chrales Veltman from Georgetown Township. He is being charged with home invasion in the 1st degree, larceny from a motor vehicle, simple assault and minor in possession of alcohol.

The sheriff’s department is asking residents to remember to lock their vehicles and garages.
