WHITE PIGEON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — One person was seriously hurt in a single-vehicle crash south of White Pigeon Tuesday.

It happened around 9:40 p.m. on Indian Prairie Road near S. Kalamazoo Street, according to Michigan State Police.

Christopher Shuman, 19,  and his 20-year-old passenger — both of White Pigeon — were in his GMC Jimmy headed west on their way to work when the SUV crossed the centerline. It went into a ditch on the opposite side of the road, made it back onto the road, skidded and rolled multiple times.

Shuman airlifted to a hospital in Fort Wayne, Ind. in serious but stable condition.

His passenger refused treatment for minor injuries.

MSP says Shuman may have fallen asleep at the wheel. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor.
