Griffins beat Stars, tie up series

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The Grand Rapids Griffins beat the Texas Stars Wednesday in Game 4 of their second-round Calder Cup playoff series.

The 3-2 win at Van Andel Arena means the Griffins and Stars are tied at two games each in the series.

Three second-period goals and phenomenal goal tending by Petr Mrazek, who made 33 saves, contributed to the win.

The Griffins lost Games 1 and 2 in Texas, but won Game 3 Tuesday night at Van Andel Arena.

Game 5 is scheduled for Friday evening at Van Andel. Game 6 and, if necessary, Game 7 will be played in Texas.

Before the game, a young Griffins fan named Camden got a special treat.

A few weeks ago, Camden’s favorite player Jordin Tootoo surprised the little boy by giving Camden his hockey stick after a game. The Griffins’ video of the moment Tootoo told Camden the stick was his went viral on YouTube.

Wednesday, Tootoo signed that stick for Camden. The Griffins tweeted photos of the meeting, showing a thrilled Camden smiling widely.
