Sentencing in drunk-driving fatal wreck

Joseph Jay Ford

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) – The man who was convicted in the drunk-driving wreck in which two people were killed was sentenced Wednesday.

Joseph Jay Ford was sentenced in Kent County Circuit Court to 12 and a half years to 30 years for one count of operating while intoxicated causing death and one year for a moving vehicle violation causing death. The sentences will be served concurrently.

Ford was found guilty in April in connection to the deaths of Eric Fischer, 23, and Andrea Herrera, 20, who were killed in an October 2013 wreck in Cascade Township at the intersection of Patterson Avenue and 36th Street.

Police said Ford hit a car in the intersection and then that car, as well as Ford’s car, hit a semi-truck, resulting in the deaths of Fischer and Herrera.
